The Further Education and Training Certificate in Information Technology: Technical Support is designed as an entry-level qualification in the field of Computer Science and Information Technology, specifically into the field of Systems Support. Learners completing this qualification will be able to understand computer industry concepts and be able to work in areas of IT with little technical complexity. Subject areas covered are hardware, software, electronics and network support on mainly (but not limited to) desktop and hand-held devices and local area networks.

This programme includes a compulsory Workplace Learning component. Workplace learning provides important opportunities for professional and personal growth. It addresses specific competencies identified for the acquisition of the qualification, which relates to the development of skills that will make the learner employable and will assist in developing his/her personal skills.
TYPE OF PROGRAMME
This is an accredited NQF programme with MICT SETA
1 year full time study according to certificate requirements.
Knowledge, comprehension and application of English language at NQF 3/Grade 11 or equivalent.
Knowledge, comprehension and application of Mathematical Literacy at NQF 3/Grade 11 or equivalent.
Admission may be subject to an interview with an academic staff member.
FUNDAMENTALS CREDIT ACCUMULATION TRANSFER (CAT)
CAT is approved by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) to award credits for fundamental unit standards against a full qualification, should a learner already have completed the fundamentals at the required level. The table below depicts the level against which CAT can be awarded.

All text books and Lab manuals are excluded from the tuition fees. A list of textbooks will be provided by your nearest campus’ academic department.

Learners may choose to write the optional external exams at the end of each module for international recognition which will be at an additional cost payable for CompTIA A+, and CompTIA N+. These exams may be written at any approved testing centre.
Formative and summative assessments will assess all specific outcomes and adhere to all assessment criteria of the learning programme. The external CompTIA exams are optional.
Upon successful completion of the whole programme, i.e. competence achieved in the summative assessments, the successful completion of the WIL component, and provided the learner’s PoE is found competent, the learner will receive a Damelin Results Letter outlining the unit standards covered.
Damelin will apply to MICT SETA on the learner’s behalf for the Further Education and Training Certificate: Technical Support Support, SAQA ID 78964, and NQF level 4 with 164 Credits Certificate to be awarded.
Upon successful completion of the optional external examinations, the learner will receive CompTIA Certification.
